Many exercises are easier to perform on a workout mat. The trick is to choose one that has all the qualities that the use wants. Here are some points to keep in mind when buying a new workout mat.

Size Matters

Always look closely at the dimensions of the mat. Along with being long enough to keep the body on the padded surface, it must also be wide enough. Standard sizes will work fine for most people, but those who are a little taller will want to look into options for a mat that’s longer and possibly a little wider.

The Padding

A cheap mat with little padding accomplishes nothing. Since the mat will be placed on a hard surface, spend a little more and get one that had adequate padding. The idea is to provide enough protection so that the mat can be used for everything from straddle hops to push-ups without causing any harm to the legs or the elbows.

Non-Slip Properties

It’s easy to work up a sweat with aerobics and other types of routines. Always choose a mat that is covered in a non-slip material. That will minimize the chance of sustaining an injury during the workout.
